The Livestock High-Throughput Phenotyping and Big Data Analytics (Livestock HTP and Big Data) meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss cutting-edge methodologies to manage and analyze large diverse livestock data applied to the animal sciences.

The animal science community has entered a golden age of opportunities thanks to the wealth of diverse data being generated. With the constant development of new automated technologies, unprecedented amounts of data are being generated daily in the livestock industry. These data have the potential to be used to predict animal health, efficiency, and breeding merit, thus, improving animal management. Unfortunately, this wealth of information is largely underutilized.

The Livestock HTP and Big Data meeting is proposed to stimulate the livestock research community to expand the use of high-throughput data. The goal of this meeting is to develop a vision and strategy to apply these data to production agriculture, thus, improving animal efficiency, health, well-being and food safety. An excellent group of world-renowned researchers will discuss industry needs, generation of high-throughput data, new phenotypes, data analytics, and more! Breakout sections endeavor to stimulate discussion, and thus, develop collaborative synergies that will result in new technologies, methods, and computational resources to achieve the goals of the meeting.

The information shared among participants of the Livestock HTP and Big Data meeting will generate opportunities to identify new management tools for industry, develop new methods to analyze big data, and strengthen collaborations between researchers with different backgrounds within livestock research. The meeting will provide a roadmap for the livestock community to facilitate the continued development of data driven technologies that will ultimately translate into enhanced profitability of livestock. Development of these collaborations, tools and analysis methods will enhance the overall competitiveness of the US agriculture in the global economy.

The Livestock HTP and Big Data conference will be unique to the livestock community because it will bring together animal, plant, and computer scientists with statisticians and engineers to meet the common objective of creating, understanding, and applying big data to solve the most diverse problems faced by the current and future livestock industry. The exchange of ideas and experiences between (young and experienced) researchers from such diverse fields will be extremely enriching and stimulating. The multi-disciplinary nature of this meeting is important to all areas of livestock research and production, which are already, and will continue, producing more and more data with the potential for broad applications.

With that, we invite you to join us in Beltsville, Maryland, on November 13th and 14th 2017 to participate in an unique meeting that will help our community to improve the use of on-farm and experimental data in livestock production!
