The number of pigs slaughtered in Spain reached 28.4 million head during the first half of 2026, a 2.1% increase from the 27.8 million recorded between January and June 2025.
According to slaughter data, the monthly trend has varied. In January, slaughter totaled 4.99 million head, slightly below the same month of the previous year. In contrast, February and March saw year-over-year increases, with 4.98 and 5.11 million animals slaughtered, respectively. April also exceeded the 2025 figures, while May saw a slight decline.
There was an even greater increase in pork production. During the first six months of the year, production reached 2.76 million metric tons (carcass weight), up 3.2% from the same period in 2025, when it stood at 2.67 million metric tons.

This difference between the growth in the number of animals slaughtered (+2.1%) and that in pork production volume (+3.2%) reflects a higher average carcass weight for the half-year. Based on cumulative data, the average weight rose from approximately 96.0 kg per carcass in 2025 to 97.1 kg per carcass in 2026.
