The Spanish National Association of Meat Industries (ANICE) has presented an analysis of the impact of African swine fever (ASF) on Spanish pork exports following the closure of some markets. According to their data, the value of exports of meat, offal, and processed products to Japan and Mexico fell by approximately €350 million during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
Between January and June 2026, Spain exported 24,880 tons of pork and offal to Japan, compared to 95,425 tons during the same period in 2025, a decrease of 73.9%. In value, exports fell from €402.9 million to €90.6 million, representing a reduction of 77.5%, equivalent to €312.3 million.

Japan suspended imports of Spanish pork products, although it allowed continued exports of those packaged on or before October 29, 2025. According to ANICE, this circumstance allowed certain flows to continue during the first months of 2026, so the data for the first half of the year do not yet fully reflect the consequences of the closure.
In Mexico, the statistics cited by ANICE show no Spanish exports of pork and offal during the first half of 2026, compared to 5,154 tons and 9.8 million euros in the same period of 2025. According to the association, the flow of processed products has also practically stopped, compared to 1,726 tons and 23.4 million euros exported in the first half of 2025.
