Pork production in Peru reached 217,623 metric tons in 2025, while consumption reached 11.0 kilograms per person per year, according to data from the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI). The pig inventory reached 3,702,587 head, and there were approximately 419,702 pig farmers in the country. According to MIDAGRI, Lima accounts for 44% of national production, followed by La Libertad (11%), Ica (7%), Arequipa (7%), and Huánuco (4%).

Pig farming has evolved significantly in recent decades: currently, 75% of production comes from intensive systems, which has helped improve product quality and open up new opportunities for access to international markets, as part of the efforts initiated with China and Singapore. The National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) continues to provide technical assistance to producers, strengthening their access to the formal market and the profit margins of thousands of families in the industry.

The growth in consumption also reflects developments in the pork supply chain and the increased recognition of pork for its nutritional value and versatility in Peruvian cuisine, promoted through coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors, in collaboration with the Peruvian Association of Pig Farmers (Asoporci).
