The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation authorized the commercialization of a new genetically modified corn that incorporates protection against certain coleopteran pests and tolerance to glufosinate ammonium-based herbicides through Resolution 108/2026.
Approval was granted after successfully completing evaluations by the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA), which determined that it exhibits agronomic and phenotypic characteristics similar to those of its conventional counterpart and poses no new or increased risks to the agroecosystem.
The studies also confirmed the absence of adverse effects on relevant non-target organisms and the safety of the expressed proteins. As a condition for commercialization, the company must implement the corresponding Insect Resistance Management Plan, in accordance with current regulations.
In addition, the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA) evaluated the product's suitability for human and animal consumption, while the Undersecretariat for Agrifood Markets and International Integration assessed the potential impact of its commercialization on Argentine exports.
The results of the evaluations supported the commercial approval of this crop, in accordance with current scientific and regulatory criteria.
