The Minister of Agricultural Development, Roberto Linares, together with the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Julio Moltó, led the regular meeting of the Agri-food Chain for Pork and Pork Products to assess import projections for 2027 and the status of domestic supply.

Linares highlighted that these meetings strengthen the swine industry—a driver of employment and economic growth in remote regions—and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to maintaining an open dialogue with all stakeholders.

Authorities and industry representatives estimated that 8,892 tons of pork will need to be imported for consumption in 2027.

The National Association of Pig Farmers (ANAPOR) reported that, by the end of September, 559,656 animals had been brought to market—an increase of 59,273 compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the National Customs Authority presented reports on pork imports as of October 23, 2026.

Nilo Murillo, director of the Agricultural Marketing Institute (IMA), stated that the procurement of picnic hams—processed in Panama—has already been awarded; these will form part of the supply program for the Christmas holiday season.

The Deputy Minister of Agricultural Development, José Aníbal Rincón, also participated in the meeting.
