The Mato Grosso Swine Breeders Association (Acrismat) followed the first vote on Bill No. 1.888/2025 at the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) on August 19. The bill provides for the inclusion of pork in school meal menus at public schools across the state. The proposal was approved by state legislators and will now proceed to the next stages of the legislative process.
Acrismat representatives also met with state legislators to highlight the importance of the initiative for Mato Grosso's swine industry and for diversifying the food offered to students.
Bill No. 1.888/2025 establishes the inclusion of pork among the foods that may be included in school meal menus in the state public school system. The bill's justification emphasizes that the measure will help expand the variety and quality of food offered to students while respecting the nutritional criteria and regional particularities already established for menu preparation.
Pork is recognized as an important source of protein and provides essential nutrients, including iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and B vitamins. Including pork in school meals can contribute to providing students with more diverse and nutritionally adequate meals.
For Acrismat, approval on first reading represents an important step toward enhancing the value of pork produced in Mato Grosso and expanding markets for the production chain.
Next steps
Following approval on first reading, Bill No. 1.888/2025 will proceed through the Legislative Assembly's procedural requirements, including review and possible consideration on second reading. If approved at the remaining stages, the bill will be forwarded to the Executive Branch for approval or veto.
