The presence of African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed on August 9 in a herd of approximately 1,850 domestic pigs in Somogy County.
The National Chief Veterinarian immediately ordered the farm closure and the implementation of the necessary epidemiological measures. The farm is located in an infected area of Hungary, and experts have also detected the virus in several wild boar samples in the area.
The authority has designated a 3- and 10-kilometer protection and observation zone around the outbreak, in which restrictions have also been introduced. The herd of fattening pigs on the affected farm in Lakócsa is being culled, and an epidemiological investigation is underway to identify the origin of the infection.
The first outbreak in domestic pigs in the country occurred on a 3,000-head domestic pig farm in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county on June 3.
