In 2026, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) assessed 518 properties in the municipalities of Arauca, Tame, Saravena, Arauquita, Cravo Norte, Fortul, and Puerto Rondón, with the participation of 550 producers. This work is part of the National Program for the Eradication of Classical swine fever (CSF), in compliance with Law 623 of 2000, which authorizes the ICA to adopt the necessary measures for prevention, control, and eradication.

The Institute conducts visits to verify biosecurity and sanitary measures, communicate risks, and establish preventive actions. Among the main risk factors are the informal movement of animals, biosecurity deficiencies, the supply of feed that has not been properly treated, failure to comply with vaccination requirements, and delayed reporting of disease signs.

Arauca has approximately 2,050 pig farms and more than 72,000 pigs. As of June 2026, Porkcolombia reported that 46,332 pigs in the department had been vaccinated against CSF.

CSF is a highly contagious viral disease that can cause significant economic losses. Early risk identification, vaccination, biosecurity, and timely reporting are key to protecting the country’s swine production and health status.
