The International Symposium on Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus and other Swine Viruses (IPRRS 2026) has concluded with great success in terms of participation and scientific content. This event has established itself as a unique platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation in the field of viral diseases in pigs.

An outstanding scientific program and broad international representation

IPRRS 2026 featured a scientific program covering key areas such as virology, pathogenesis, immunity, diagnostics and epidemiology. Of particular importance was the international roundtable on IPRRS control and eradication, where experiences from Denmark, the United States and China were shared and the main obstacles to effective control of this disease were discussed.

Although PRRS remained the central topic of the meeting, the symposium broadened its focus to address other viral diseases with a major impact, such as African Swine Fever virus, Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, Influenza virus and other emerging or re-emerging viruses of global relevance. This broader perspective reflects the complexity of the health challenges currently facing the swine industry.

Scientific rigor and quality were the main highlights of the congress. The event featured a panel of leading international experts and included more than 100 scientific contributions, distributed across 16 invited lectures, oral presentations, flash talks and poster presentations.

The congress welcomed delegates from 32 countries across Europe, Asia and America. The strong participation from Spain is particularly noteworthy, clearly reflecting the interest in these diseases in our country.

Pre-symposium day aimed at a national audience

As a prelude to the international symposium, a session entitled "The importance of health in swine production" was held. This pre-symposium, jointly organized with Anaporc and Anavepor, brought together more than 100 professionals to review practical tools for addressing two priority challenges for the sector: biosecurity -particularly relevant in the context of African swine fever- and PRRS control. This session was organized in the form of roundtables and included a dedicated presentation on the costs associated with PRRS and its control in Spain.

Industry support

The organization of IPRRS 2026 was made possible thanks to the strong support of the industry, led by the "Gold" sponsors (ADA, Boehringer Ingelheim, HIPRA, MSD Animal Health, Syva, Zoetis and ThermoFisher Scientific), "Silver" (AAF International, AM Animalia, Gold Standard Diagnostics, IDVet and SAN VET) and "Bronze" (APC, Calier, Ceva, IDEXX, Topigs Norsvin) and the collaboration of 3tres3 as the exclusive Media Partner. In addition, Alivira, Fatro and Olmix acted as co-sponsors of the pre-symposium day. The support provided by Boehringer Ingelheim and IDEXX to the new generation of researchers is worth highlighting, as they facilitated their attendance through travel grant sponsorship. Likewise, Boehringer Ingelheim sponsored the awards for the best congress presentations.

Next edition

IPRRS 2026 has come to an end, but interest in the disease continues. To close the symposium, Professor Hanchun Yang, from China Agricultural University, announced that the next edition of IPRRS will be held in China in 2029.
