Individual precision feeding (IPF) seeks to provide each animal with the exact amount of nutrients required daily.

26-May-2026Roger CampbellWhat is the cost of such a system, and does it weigh and record the weight of each pig? Can it restrict the amount of feed each pig receives. The latter would help enhance feed efficiency and mananage carcass lean (and price).
Changes in requirement with increasing weight goes well beyond lysine. The biggest problem seems that they are unreliable in commercial situations.

Photo 1. Individual feeders allow pigs to enter one at a time to request feed. Ear tags identify each pig with passive transponders, which allow the feeder to recognize the individual and provide daily diets tailored to each animal's specific needs.
