European Union - EU27 real agricultural income per worker down by 12.2%

EU27 real agricultural income per worker has decreased by 12.2% in 2009, following a decrease by 2.5% in 2008, according to first estimates issued by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities . This decline results from a reduction in real agricultural income (-14.2%), together with a fall in agricultural labour input (-2.2%).

Atria invests in pig farming in Russia

Atria Plc has signed a shareholders' agreement with the Danish company AS Dan Invest concerning pig production in Russia. Atria will have a 26 % stake in the Russian company OOO Dan Invest, which is the owner of two pig farms: one in Krasnodar and one in Tambov.

Japan - Decrease in pig meat imports

During the first nine month of 2009 Japanese imports of pig meat have dropped considerably compared with the same period of 2008. This decrease in imports is due to a decrease in pig meat consumption and to a big increase in the national production of pig meat.

Climate change could reduce by 10% agricultural production in Europe

After the recent release of the final report of the PESETA project on the impact of climate change in Europe, the JRC's Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) is launching a series of monographic reports with more information on each of the sector specific studies of the project. The first such report, "Impacts of climate change in agriculture in Europe" has been published.

Netherlands – New agreement for financing disease control

The Ministry for Agriculture and the national organizations for producing livestock and meat (PVV), poultry and eggs (PPE), and dairy products (PZ), have arrived to a financial agreement for a program of control of infectious diseases in animals for the period 2010-2014.
