Are you keeping track of the water flow rates for your sows?
Water supply and the number of drinking points are important for the animals’ productivity and welfare.
Pigs’ water requirements vary depending on their life stage. As you can see from the table below, recommended by SEGES Innovation, sows have the highest water requirements in the farrowing pen, as they need a lot of water to maintain milk production. Sows’ milk contains approximately 80% water, and water is therefore a key factor for good milk production and feed intake.

How to check the water flow

In addition to the number of water supply points and the flow rate, water quality is also of great importance. It is therefore important to draw up a plan for when and how often the water pipes on your property should be flushed.
Always check the water supply before introducing new animals to the pen, and ensure that the number of animals matches the water supply capacity.
