In today’s modern world, legacy still matters

Crystal Spring has manufactured hog equipment that helps swine producers feed their pigs to feed the world. The Crystal Spring Hutterite community in Manitoba, Canada raised hogs but wasn’t satisfied with the feeders they had purchased, so they decided to make their own, thus establishing Crystal Spring Hog Equipment in the early 1980’s.

Relationships with customers drive innovation

This creative community of inventors with old world craftsmanship worked hard to create the best wet/dry feeders for their customers. Now, almost 30 years later and along with many improvements and several patented innovations, the wet/dry feeder typically achieves 5.4% greater average daily gain, a better feed conversion rate, and an impressive 35.6% less water use. The feeders are built to last for over 20 years.

Innovative products aren’t the only thing that sets Crystal Spring apart. Anyone could measure the parts Crystal Spring uses and try to duplicate their products, but what really makes the company stand out is how they listen to their customers and the problems they are having in the barn to capture ideas that will drive the next innovations.

The way Crystal Spring values relationships is evident in how the community lives and works together, which transcends to their global partners, their values ultimately manifesting in how they treat their customers- following up to answer any questions and listening to any concerns. That feedback from farmers is not only used to innovate their products but also helps Crystal Spring provide suggestions on how farmers can better manage the feeders.

Generations

Many things have changed over Crystal Springs’ 30 years.  Faces have grown older and new faces have become involved, both inside the colony and beyond, spreading Crystal Spring’s legacy and farmer-oriented culture globally.
