Brazil – Increase in pig meat exports

During the first 10 months of 2009, Brazilian exports of pig meat reached 511 thousand tonnes which is an increase in volume of 8.68% compared to the same period of 2008, although it suffered a drastic fall in value (-23,20%).

USA - Workshops to focus on Ag competition

The U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division and the USDA will hold a series of joint public workshops to explore competition issues affecting the agricultural sector in the 21st century and the appropriate role for antitrust and regulatory enforcement in that industry. The first workshop will be held in early 2010.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) and the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) have published a joint scientific opinion on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) focused on infections transmitted to humans from animals and food (zoonoses).
