This parameter, along with the percentage of annual replacements, tells us if the census is stable. This is especially important, because there are more specific breeding parameters that can be altered if the number of matings is growing or decreasing. The percentage of slaughtered sows should be equal to the percentage of replacements minus the percentage of dead sows, in order to maintain a stable census.
