Zoilo M. Lapus

Swine Consultant - Philippines Author

Zoilo graduated at the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of the Philippines in 1970. After initially working with E.R. Squibb and Sons as Animal Health Representative from 1971-75, he went into full-time practice focusing on swine, poultry, cattle and small ruminants and animal feeds production.

In the next 10 years, while establishing his farm consultancy practice he joined the faculty of the Veterinary Medicine of the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation as Professorial Lecturer on Veterinary Pharmacology and Swine Diseases from 1978-81.

He obtained his Master of Science in Animal Husbandry from the said university in 1980. He was also the lecturer on swine and poultry production at the Executive Development Academy, a livelihood and business training center in Manila from 1976-80.

He became Dean of the Fatima College of Veterinary Medicine from 1984-88.

He attended training in the USA, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Australia on artificial insemination, swine health and diagnostics, animal nutrition, swine immunology, experimental pharmacology and farm auditing and economics.

He obtained a diploma on Advanced Swine Production Technology from the University of Illinois-Urbana in 1997.

He is currently the Executive Director of the Asian Pig Veterinary Society after serving as Vice-President from 1982-83 and President from 1983-85.

He is a Fellow and Past President of the Philippine College of Swine Practitioners. He is a Fellow of the Philippine Veterinary Feed Practitioners and a member of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians.

Awards and Recognition
He was awarded by the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association as the 1992 Outstanding Veterinarian in Agribusiness and the 1995 Veterinarian in Swine Practice by the Veterinary Practitioners Association of the Philippines. He was the 1999 U.P. Vanguard awardee for Veterinary medicine and Agribusiness. VIV Asia and International Pig Topics Magazine recognized him as the 2005 Asian Pig Personality for his dedicated livelihood seminars and daily radio-TV program for backyard swine raisers in the Philippines since 1998. Zoilo was the 2006 Distinguished Alumnus in Veterinary Practice of the UP College of Veterinary Medicine.
