Lipids or fats

They are organic compounds which result from the esterification of alcohols, such as glycerin and cholesterol, with fatty acids. They are very energy-rich substances.

Lipids have several functions in living organisms which include storing energy (triglycerides), structural (phospholipids) and regulatory functions (steroid hormones).

Fats are formed by the combination of fatty acids with glycerine. Examples of edible fats are lard, margarine or butter.
