Red stomach worm (Hyostrongylus rubidus)

The red stomach worm can cause gastritis.

Description

Hyostrongylus rubidus worm affects the stomach of pigs. Its importance and pathology are not well known. Its color makes it highly visible in the stomach during a necropsy.

 

Sows, nursery, and fattening

  • It is suspected that it has effects on growth.

 

  • Raising pigs outdoors on pasture.

 

  • Fecal analysis looking for eggs. Necropsy for worm in stomach.

 

  • Limit pigs' access to pasture.
  • Use of anthelmintic.
