A Welfarmers' dedicated workshop took place during the ANAS General Assembly held on June 11, 2026.

On the occasion of the ANAS General Assembly held on June 11, 2026, a workshop dedicated to the Welfarmers project took place, offering an opportunity for technical discussion and exchange on key issues related to animal welfare in the pig production chain.

The project brings together seventeen partners from eight European countries—including ANAS and CRPA for Italy—and represents an innovative initiative aimed at identifying and promoting best practices in pig welfare on farms. Good practices from the eight participating countries, covering four main areas— ban of cages, tail docking, castration, and space allowance—have been identified and assessed for implementation in pig farming systems to improve animal welfare.

The meeting represented an important opportunity to highlight the work carried out within the project, with the presentation of the best practices selected at the European level by Dr. Paolo Ferrari of CRPA (Research Centre for Animal Production) and Dr. Manolo Cappelloni of ANAS.

The presentations emphasized how the adoption of good practices is not only an ethical and regulatory requirement, but also a concrete opportunity to strengthen farm competitiveness, improve product quality, and meet the growing expectations of consumers.

The workshop confirmed the importance of promoting an approach based on scientific evidence, innovation transfer, and support for farmers, contributing to the spread of increasingly sustainable production models.
