As temperatures rise, producers may face hidden challenges linked to lower feed intake, dehydration pressure and compromised gut function.
In this article, we explore:
✓ Heat stress and lactating sow feed intake
✓ The impact on piglet vitality and post-weaning adaptation
✓ Commercial observations reporting 71% lower sow mortality and 61.6% fewer fall-behind piglets under summer conditions
✓ Practical hydration and management strategies for hot periods

Last week at the ESPHM Congress in Florence, we presented two new scientific posters exploring the impact of early-life micro-enteral nutrition on piglet performance.
At Tonisity, we believe robust science means generating evidence across countries, production systems and commercial farm conditions, building data that reflects the realities veterinarians and producers face in the field.
These latest findings add to growing research associated with early-life nutrition, supporting gut integrity and helping piglets better cope with critical stress periods.
It was also a pleasure connecting with customers, distributors and industry colleagues in Florence. Thank you to everyone involved, especially the Tonisity team behind the research, analysis and presentation of this work.

In animal production, one good result can be chance. But when the same outcome repeats across systems, regions, and conditions, it becomes evidence.
We’re proud to share updated results from our global meta-analyses on pre-weaning mortality, weights, and fall-behinds.
This level of robust, repeatable evidence reflects years of field work, scientific discipline, and a commitment to delivering results producers and veterinarians can trust.

Why treating only small piglets limits performance
Focusing only on small piglets is like fixing a leak while the main pipe is broken. Real performance gains come from supporting the whole litter, not just the smallest.
