WelFarmers presented at the XIII International Congress of Pig Production in Portugal

Vila Real, Portugal — The WelFarmers project was presented on Saturday, March 14, during the XIII International Congress of Pig Production, held in Vila Real, Portugal.

The presentation was delivered by Mariana Almeida, representing the Portuguese Regional Network, who shared an overview of the work carried out within the project so far. She presented the main achievements of WelFarmers, including the winning Good Practices from Round 1, as well as the new Good Practice proposals currently being developed in Round 2.

Following the presentation, a roundtable discussion took place with the participation of João Bastos (FPAS) and moderated by Sofia Querido (Grupo Querido), a collaborator of the Portuguese Regional Network. The session provided an opportunity to exchange views on the practical implementation of these practices and their relevance for the sector.

The congress, organised by IAAS-UTAD Professor Divanildo, brought together professionals from across the pig sector and covered a wide range of topics, including biosecurity and sanitation, reproduction and genetic improvement, the political context of the sector, nutrition, and food environment, among others.

Through its participation in events such as this, the WelFarmers project continues to engage with stakeholders and promote the exchange of knowledge to support the improvement of pig welfare across Europe.
