This time we highlight the Good Practice “Loose Lactation & Piglet Commingling”, from the topic Ban of Cages.

In this video, Jason McGrath, farmer and co-owner of Ashleigh Farms in Ireland, explains how their good practice involves the use of 6.5 m² lactation pens with farrowing crates that are opened between day 4 and day 7, allowing sows more freedom of movement. Piglets are allowed to co-mingle from 20 days of age and are weaned at 28 days.
