From detection to diagnosis of Streptococcus suis
Streptococcus suis presents a unique diagnostic challenge in swine production. Because the bacterium can commonly colonize healthy pigs, simply detecting Strep. suis does not necessarily mean it is responsible for the clinical disease observed on the farm. Understanding when, where, and how to test, and how to interpret those results, is therefore critical for veterinarians and producers.
In this second session of our three-part series, Dr. Virginia Aragón takes a closer look at the diagnosis of Strep. suis and the challenges of determining its clinical significance. Through this discussion, we'll explore sample selection, current diagnostic tools and their limitations, the interpretation of positive results, and the role of bacterial characterization in understanding disease.
Whether you're a swine veterinarian, producer, consultant, or animal health professional, this webinar will provide a practical perspective on moving beyond simply detecting Strep. suis toward making better diagnostic decisions in the field, while setting the stage for the final session on prevention and control.
This session is pre-recorded, so you'll also be able to watch it on demand anytime after its initial broadcast.
