Ebola is a significant disease to humans due to its high mortality caused by haemorrhage. Of the five species of Ebolavirus, Ebola Reston virus is the only one known to infect pigs. Fortunately, Ebola Reston does not infect humans, but because of the very high significance of Ebola to humans, affected farms must be depopulated to eliminate the potential for transmission to humans.
