Zimbabwe has imposed an immediate ban on the importation of live cloven-hoofed animals and related products following a confirmed outbreak of Foot-And-Mouth Disease (FMD) in South Africa. The ban, which specifically targets imports from South Africa, aims to safeguard the country’s livestock industry and prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease.

The government has called on all stakeholders, including livestock importers, transporters, border officials and the general public, to comply fully with the directive. Authorities emphasised that strict adherence is essential to protect Zimbabwe’s animal health and prevent FMD from entering the country.
