At the Agriculture Summit Africa 2025, themed “Survival of the Greenest” and held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Abuja. The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development described the livestock sector as a critical driver of rural prosperity and a pillar of Africa’s food and economic future.

Despite the vast opportunities within the livestock industry, the sector continues to face significant constraints due to outdated practices and chronic underinvestment.

According to the Ministry, strengthening the sector requires a multi-faceted approach, including improved meat supply, enhanced disease control and animal health services, greater access to soft loans, and the opening of new economic frontiers. These measures it stated, are essential for securing Africa’s food security and sustainable growth.
