The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has rolled out a series of hands-on capacity-building trainings for Youths and Women on quality Livestock Feed production and micro-livestock value chains across several states. The initiative, implemented through the Department of Livestock Extension and Business Development, was held between 20 and 23 December 2025 in Plateau, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra states, and the Federal Capital Territory, with the aim of strengthening skills, boosting productivity, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in the Livestock sector.
The trainings focused on building both technical and entrepreneurial capacity, particularly for youths and women, through practical instruction in feed formulation, poultry production, and micro-livestock enterprises. Emphasis was placed on sustainable and biosecure practices that can be directly applied for income generation and improved livelihoods, in line with the ministry’s broader mandate to promote inclusive and profitable Livestock systems.

Key activities included a specialised livestock feed production training for youths in Plateau State, alongside on-farm sessions on beekeeping and snail farming in Ekiti, Ondo, and the Federal Capital Territory. Additional poultry value chain trainings were conducted in Enugu, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, focusing on sustainable and profitable production systems. Expected outcomes include improved feed production skills, increased youth participation in livestock enterprises, wider adoption of best practices, and stronger development of the livestock feed value chain.
