Nigeria, FAO renew collaboration to advance Livestock system

The Minister of Livestock Development on Thursday, December 4, 2025, led a delegation from the Ministry on a courtesy visit to the FAO Country Office in Abuja, where they were received by the FAO Representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS. The engagement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with FAO on sustainable livestock development.

During the visit, the Ministry emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance animal health systems, improve disease surveillance and elevate national food security. The government also highlighted the importance of expanding joint initiatives under the One Health approach to boost productivity and resilience across livestock value chains.

FAO acknowledged the progress made in Nigeria’s livestock sector and reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting national priorities and sectoral reforms aimed at improving animal health, production efficiency and overall sector sustainability.
