The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to partnering with the private sector through Public Private Partnerships to rehabilitate 38 legacy livestock facilities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The assurance was given at a specialised Public Private Partnership training organised by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in Abuja.
The Ministry explained that the livestock facilities, which include pig progeny centres, were established several decades ago and require urgent rehabilitation. The government noted that adopting a Public Private Partnership model would allow for faster and more cost effective restoration of the facilities compared to building new infrastructure, while returning the assets to productive use.
According to the Ministry, effective Public Private Partnership arrangements are expected to attract private investment, stimulate innovation, create jobs, reduce conflict and improve productivity across the livestock value chain. The training brought together stakeholders from civil society, non-governmental organisations, farmers’ groups and the private sector, with participants encouraged to develop viable, inclusive and sustainable partnership projects aligned with national development priorities.
