The rampaging outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in several regions of South Africa has raised serious concerns within the agricultural sector. The disease has already affected KwaZulu-Natal and has recently spread to Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

Clinical inspections and livestock testing are being conducted on farms to monitor and contain the spread of the virus. Farmers are urged to strengthen biosecurity measures and limit the movement of animals between locations to help curb transmission.
