The Food and Agriculture Organization has delivered a batch of equipment to the Ivorian goverment to strengthen the country’s response to African swine fever outbreak. The support is aimed at improving the capacity of veterinary services in disease detection, movement control and public awareness as part of broader efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

The equipment includes protective gear, diagnostic tools and field operation materials, forming part of a technical cooperation initiative to enhance preparedness and response systems within the pig sector. Furthermore, FAO says the intervention will help limit further outbreaks and improve coordination in managing the disease.

African swine fever has been present in the country since the 1990s, with periodic outbreaks affecting pig production. The most recent wave in 2024 impacted several regions and led to the culling of more than 100,000 pigs, highlighting the continued threat the disease poses to the national livestock industry.
