Course description:
PRRS Diagnostics Part #2 will reach beyond the basic content of Part #1 to focus upon several of the more challenging issues that swine veterinary practitioners face as they endeavor to apply PRRS diagnostic tools in both negative and positive scenarios in a way that is cost-effective for their customers. The issues discussed in the course will include the use of oral fluids and their potential applications (Zimmerman), determining the correct number of samples to collect and sampling strategy options (Davies), as well as the differentiation of new versus resident virus and how to determine the time to until negative production following a PRRS outbreak (Morrision).
Objectives:
1. Explore many of the more challenging diagnostic and epidemiological issues that the PRRSv poses for swine veterinary practitioners.
2. Facilitate the development of the skills and knowledge necessary to develop a comprehensive PRRS health management plan that is guided by the AASV PRRS classification framework.
