Nigeria has reaffirmed her commitment to creating an enabling environment and deepening collaboration with all stakeholders to position animal feed as a central pillar of Nigeria’s livestock transformation agenda. This renewed assurance came during the Nigeria Feed & Fodder Partners’ Breakfast Roundtable held in Abuja.

According to the Ministry of Livestock Development, Nigeria possesses the land, livestock resources, human capacity, and market potential to become West Africa’s leading hub for feed production. The Ministry noted that reforms under the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy are prioritizing sustainable feed and fodder systems, while the National Animal Feed and Fodder Policy is being advanced to bridge the national feed deficit and promote commercial forage production.

The government emphasized Nigeria’s gradual transition toward structured livestock production infrastructures, referencing the recently launched livestock estate in Wase as an example of this shift. It reiterated that feed remains the single largest cost component of livestock production, making efficient feed systems essential for sectoral competitiveness.
