Nigeria has opened its market to a broader range of U.S. beef and pork products, marking a significant expansion in market access for the U.S. red meat industry. Previously, only a limited range of processed meat products could be exported to Nigeria, but the new arrangement allows most U.S. red meat products unless specifically excluded.
‎
‎The products that remain ineligible include beef and pork offal, bone-in hams, and smoked, dried or cured beef and pork. However, beef cuts and most pork cuts can now be exported to Nigeria, providing U.S. suppliers with access to a large market of more than 240 million people.
‎
‎The development is seen as an important opportunity for the U.S. red meat industry, despite potential challenges in establishing a presence in Nigeria’s retail and foodservice sectors. The expanded access is expected to create long-term opportunities for trade and further strengthen the commercial relationship between the two countries.
