The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has launched a trilateral partnership with Brazil and the United Kingdom to boost livestock productivity in Nigeria, with goals centered on food security, job creation and economic growth. This initiative aims to modernise livestock systems through improved animal welfare, stronger climate resilience and the use of digital market technologies.
The programme thought to assess near market digital innovations such as smart collars, sensor systems, environmental monitoring tools and digital health records, while strengthening disease surveillance and precision animal health using data driven approaches. This approach is designed to help producers improve feeding systems, productivity and resilience, while reducing emissions from livestock production.
Partners are advised to draw on international best practice and adapt proven systems to local conditions, with collaboration focused on knowledge transfer and technology deployment. Some similarities in climate and ecosystems between parts of Brazil and Nigeria are expected to support practical learning, while data analytics and artificial intelligence expertise from the United Kingdom will underpin the digital elements of the programme.
