04-Dec-2025 (today)The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria's livestock sector, emphasizing that the current administration will not allow continued neglect. The declaration was made in Yola during the commissioning of a new Model Veterinary Hospital constructed through the World Bank assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project under the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. A veterinary ambulatory vehicle was also commissioned to strengthen animal health outreach to pastoral communities.
The newly inaugurated facility marks a significant step forward for animal health service delivery in Adamawa State and the country. Through the project, seven model veterinary hospitals have been completed and equipped across participating states, while fourteen additional facilities are at various stages of completion, bringing the total to twenty-one.
The facility is designed to function as a center of excellence for animal health services, offering consulting rooms, a diagnostic laboratory, and a fully equipped surgical theatre for both elective and emergency procedures. Veterinary officers were urged to ensure proper use and maintenance of the infrastructure.
The National Project Coordination Office highlighted the hospital as a major step toward improved disease control, early detection, reduced livestock mortality, increased productivity, better food security, and expanded opportunities for veterinary professionals.
