Pig epidemic diarrhoea has caused losses of about RD$70 million since its presence was detected last October in Dominican farms, according to the president of the Dominican Swine Producers' Federation, Mr. José López.

Nevertheless, he guaranteed that these losses do not endanger the stability of the Dominican pig production nor the price of meat for the final consumer, because the number of dead animals has not reached 10,000 during these five months in a sector capable of raising some 1,200,000 pigs every year, yet the mortality among the newborn piglets reached 50% in the almost 25 affected farms.
