Chile: current PRRS strain has no relation with the strain eradicated in 2007

In relation with the reoccurrence of PRRS in Chile, the OIE reports that genotyping indicates that the current strain has no relation with the strain eradicated in 2007; therefore, it would be a new strain of the virus.

Sequencing of the circulating strain shows a similarity between 95% and 97.7% with strains from Mexico and the United States of America.

The strains in the outbreaks occurring in industrial-type farms have a similarity of 99.2% with the strains in the backyard outbreaks.
