Philippines enacts law on food safety

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has approved the Food Safety Act of 2013, a new law aimed at ensuring the safety and quality of food for consumers.

The law sets a new framework for food safety at all stages from harvest to processing to distribution and consumption. Under the law, the Departments of Agriculture and Health will develop new food safety standards.
