Germany: number of pig-keeping holdings down

According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), there were about 28,000 holdings keeping pigs in Germany, including about 11,200 holdings with breeding sows, on reference day 3 May 2013. A total of approximately 27.4 million pigs were kept. Thus the number of pig-keeping holdings was down 7.5% from 2012, that of pigs covered by 2.5%.
