Denmark: small decline in the pig census

The latest data published by the Danish Statistics Service puts the pig population at 11.96 million pigs as of April 1, 2012, slightly below the 12.35 million as of January 1 and similar to the same period last year (11,932).

Regarding sows, as of April 1 the census amounted to 1.023 million sows, 1 percent less than the same period last year. Regarding pigs above 50 kg, there was a slight increase of 2% over the same period last year, with 3.12 million head on April 1, 2012 compared to 3.05 to April 1, 2011.
