Vietnam plans to import 70,000 tons of meat in 2012

As reported by ICEX, from the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Ho Chi Minh City, during the next year, local production will not be able to supply the domestic demand for meat. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is providing a 7% increase in the import of meat products.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is expecting to have to import 70,000 tons of meat in 2012 to supply the local demand which domestic production won’t be able to be satisfy.
Local meat consumption has reached 3.3 million tons, with an anticipated increase of 7% compared to this year. The Ministry will also provide for an annual increase of 6.2% for the production of live animals, to 4.7 million tons in 2012, which corresponds to 3.3 million pigs (4.5%), 772,000 tons of poultry (12%) and 343,000 tons of cattle (11%).
