On July 3, the Lithuanian authorities gave notice of a secondary source of Classical Swine Fever on a swine farm with a census of 2.045 animals. The farm is located in the municipality of Bokoniu, in the Jonava district, which is only 5 km from the last source announced and therefore, was included in the watch zone.

The majority of the pigs under investigation showed respiratory symptoms and tested positive for PRRS. In 6 of the 68 samples studied the CSF virus was identified using the PCR technique. These samples are being subject to viral isolation and genotyping. Preventative measures taken by the Council Directive 2001/89/CE on October 23 relating to community efforts to fight CSF 23, are still in place. Also, new protection and watch zones have been set up around this new source.
