Pathological material from pigs found dead at the SFT OOO “AgroSoyuzYugRusi” (“Leninskoye” branch) located in the settlement of Alexandrov of the Morozovsky Rayon of the Rostovskoy Oblast were positive for ASF. Pathological material from dead pigs detected in a backyard in the settlement of Staroanninsky of the Novoanninsky Rayon of the Volgogradskaya was tested in the GU “Volgogradskaya Oblast Veterinary Laboratory on 21 January 2011. The preliminary diagnosis was African swine fever (hereinafter ASF).

When disease occurred, the pig population at the STF OOO “AgroSoyuzYugRusi” (“Leninskoye” branch) was 485 animals and in the settlement of Alexandrov it was 248 animals. Population of wild boars is absent in the territory of the Morozovsky Rayon.

The pathological material from animals in Volgogradskaya that were found dead on 29 January 2011 was sent for confirmation to the GNU “VNIIVViM”. Totally, there were 21 pigs in the backyard. Six animals were dead, when the owner informed the State Veterinary Services of the Volgogradskaya Oblast on 20 January 2011. As of 20 January 2011 pig population in the settlement of Staroanninskaya was 312 animals.
