Russia – Decrease in pig population

14-Jan-2011 (15 years 4 months 22 days ago)According to the information provided by Russian State Statistics Committee as of December 1, 2010, the population of pigs totaled 18 million which is 1.6% (0.3 million) less compared with December 1, 2009.
Compared to the beginning of November, the number of pigs dropped by 3.2% or 0.6 million heads which is a matter of seasonal factors.The production volumes of pork in November 2010 totaled 139.9 thousand tons in live weight (102.5 thousand tons in slaughter weight) which is 12.8% up compared to November 2009. Agricultural enterprises produced 1432.5 thousand tons of pork in live weight (1050 thousand tons in slaughter weight) in January-November 2010 which is 1.4% more vs. the same period of 2009, 45% more vs. 2008 and 65.2% more vs. 2007.
