10-Jan-2011 (15 years 4 months 28 days ago)In light of the comments received Ministers have decided to proceed with the proposal for a compulsory registration scheme in the 2011 Regulations. The scheme will come into force one year from the date of the VMR coming into force. It will not cover sales of AVM-GSL medicines. Further information relating to the scheme will be made available on the VMD website as it becomes available.
VMD received 35 responses regarding this proposal of which 27 were supportive. The consultees expressed support for the proposal to tighten the controls for on-line retailing of veterinary medicinal products. One consultee expressed concern that some small retailers, mainly those pet shops who sell AVM-GSL medicines, may be penalised due to their small scale and the costs involved for setting up and being subject to Inspection.
