India to introduce new food safety act

28-Oct-2010 (15 years 7 months 11 days ago)The Indian Government will issue new laws on food safety in December with the aim to lay down standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and imports.
This law will consolidate all existing food laws in the country, a long-overdue demand by the food industry. Manufacturers of adulterated food items will be fined between IND 100,000 (USD 2,261) to 1 million (USD 22,610). The act will also have a provision for training and orientation of food safety officers.
