In 2009 Spain produced 3.5 million tons of pork meat with a total animal census of 26 million. In the 2008 Anual Food Chain Statistics Report, updated in October of 2009 and produced by the Minister of Agriculture, Fishing and Food Supply, 5 autonomous communities make up three quarters of the entire Spanish census. Catalunya is the leader, with a total of 6,636,044 pigs (26%), followed by Aragon (21%), Castilla y Leon (14%), Andalucía (9%), Murcia (8%) and Extremadura (5%).
