Belgium – Decrease in swine population

06-Apr-2010 (16 years 2 months ago)The latest figures published for the livestock census carried out on 15 November 2009 show a 10.6% decrease in the swine population in Belgium, dropping from 6,207,595 head in 2008 to 5,547,134 in 2009.
Decreases were observed of more than 18% in the number of replacement primiparous gilts, and of 12% in the number of piglets of less than 20 kg live weight.
Big differences were seen between regions, with a decrease in the swine population of 11.4% in Flanders, and an increase of 1.8% in Wallonia.
